Dan Johnstone — a.k.a. Can Man Dan — is hoping to collect $100,000 worth of new toys for 630 CHED Santas Anonymous.

On Sunday, local anti-poverty activist Dan Johnstone, also know as Can Man Dan, hosted the seventh annual Back to School campaign.

One week ago, the food bank wasn't even halfway to its donation goal. But in the last seven days, Edmontonians have stepped up.

The man known as "Can Man Dan" is making one last push before Christmas to help the Edmonton Food Bank.

Dan Johnstone says he's hoping to raise over 50,000 pounds of food for the Edmonton Food Bank by the end of his campaign on Christmas Eve.

Hundreds of families lined up in north Edmonton on Sunday to receive fresh school supplies, food and haircuts — all for free — thanks to an initiative aiming to help those in need ahead of the new school year.

Edmonton's food bank is in desperate need as we head into the holidays, but an opportunity to help is underway.
