The volunteer-run festival celebrates Armstrong's agricultural roots and gives young families a chance to test their green thumbs by growing giant gourds.

Part of the Armstrong Harvest Pumpkin Festival, the Scarecrows on the Street contest had two dozen local businesses competing for best hand-made scarecrow display, with participation benefiting the food bank.
