Cyclist killed in collision on Highway 16: Strathcona County RCMP

At least three people are dead after two Friday morning collisions on Alberta highways. As Mason DePatie reports, it's a troubling start to the last long weekend of summer. – Sep 1, 2023

A collision on Friday morning on Highway 16 westbound between Broadmoor Boulevard and Anthony Henday Drive left one person dead.

It happened at 5:12 a.m. just outside Sherwood Park.

Emergency crews found a deceased person and later determined it was a cyclist who was hit by another vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle was located and taken to hospital with injuries.

The deceased has been identified, however, additional details are not available until next of kin has been notified.

RCMP believe that alcohol consumption may be a factor and there is an impaired driving causing death investigation underway with the driver of the vehicle.

Strathcona County RCMP earlier said Highway 16 westbound was impassable but it was reopened as of 2 p.m. and normal traffic had resumed.
