Calgary police confirmed that the woman was struck at around 1:25 a.m. in a hit-and-run in the 3800 block of 34th Street Northeast.

She was pronounced dead at the site of the collision, police said.

“Injuries sustained by the pedestrian are quite significant,” Sgt. Colin Foster said.

The incident took place just outside the Whitehorn Emergency Services Communications Centre. Some employees heard the crash and went to see what happened and saw the car driving away, police said.

These employees were able to give police a description of the vehicle.

Late Friday afternoon, Calgary police described the suspect vehicle as a dark-coloured Dodge Grand Caravan minivan, believed to be a 2008 to 2010 model, and not an SUV as previously believed. Police also said the vehicle will likely have some “noticeable front-end damage.”

The vehicle was last seen travelling north on 34th Street and then turning left to travel west on 39th Avenue.

Police closed 34th Street between 34th Avenue and 39th Avenue Northeast following the hit-and-run but the road has since reopened.

Police ask that any businesses in the area with security cameras to please check the footage and report to the police if anything relating to the crash is seen.
