Big hit drops Rockets d-man

Due to a number of inquiries by hockey fans in Kelowna and Seattle, the Kelowna Rockets would like to clarify the status of defenceman Mitch Wheaton after the second year player suffered an injury in Tuesday’s game in Seattle.

Wheaton, 18, was injured on a hit during the third period of last night’s game in Seattle. He lay prone on the ice and a stretcher was needed to take the Sherwood Park native off the ice.

Wheaton suffered an upper body injury on the play. Specific details of the injury will not be released publicly.

After leaving the ice Wheaton was transported to hospital in Seattle before being released and traveling back with the Rockets on the team bus.
