Man charged after 2 assaults reported in Toronto: police

A man has been charged in connection with two assault investigations in Toronto, police say.

Toronto police said on May 22, officers received a report of an aggravated assault in the area of Yonge and Elm streets.

Police said a man allegedly assaulted another man, leaving him with life-threatening injuries.

Officers said on Tuesday, the same man allegedly approached another random man in the Jarvis Street and Carleton Street area.

According to police, the suspect allegedly “began taunting him to fight.”

“As the man declined to fight and backed away, he was assaulted and sustained minor injuries,” police allege in a news release.

Police said 42-year-old Robert Dewitt from Toronto was arrested.

He has been charged with aggravated assault, two counts of assault and one count of breach of probation.

Dewitt was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
