A wildfire broke out below Mt. Baldy Drive in Kelowna, B.C. early Sunday evening.
Around 5 p.m., emergency crews were called on scene to multiple reports of a wildfire.
The first reporting officer reported a 30 by 30 foot, rank 2 wildfire.
The Kelowna Fire Department (KFD) says access was an issue when firefighters first arrived.
“Crews initially cut a fire guard around the fire to contain it until hose lines were in place and a water source was secured,” said platoon captain Scott Clarke.
The wildfire was quickly knocked down and extinguished by fire crews.
The KFD responded with four engine trucks, two bush trucks, an ATV, as well as a command unit with 20 fire personnel.
The fire department says the blaze appears to have started in a camp for people experiencing homelessness.
RCMP, BCEHS, and City of Kelowna bylaw officers also responded to the wildfire.
There were no injuries to the public or firefighters.
The KFD would like to remind the public that if they do see any type of smoke to call 911 and that fires are not permitted within city limits.
“For those people who are thinking of having a fire in Kelowna don’t do it. Propane fires only, please. I would say with this weather in another week, it’s going to be super dry it doesn’t take very long,” said Clarke.
