SASKATOON – Inspectors have determined the cause of a roof collapse at Mosaic’s potash mine at Colonsay, Sask.

The collapse happened in February in the thickener building where clay is separated from the salty solution known as brine.

Saskatchewan’s chief mine inspector says problems had been identified before the collapse and some repairs had been made.

But the engineer who identified the problem thought he had longer to fix it.

Mosaic has introduced tougher inspection requirements for all of its facilities.
