TORONTO – Firefighters worked Wednesday to battle a blaze at the home of former Olympic figure skater Kurt Browning.
Toronto Fire Services received a call at 10:57 a.m. alerting them to a fire in the city’s upscale Forest Hill neighbourhood. Within 30 minutes, the emergency had been upgraded to a three-alarm fire and more than 80 firefighters were dispatched to the scene.
Officials believe the blaze originated inside a car parked in an indoor garage, said Toronto Fire Services Division Commander Bob O’Hallarn. It is believed a leaf blower was being used to dry the seats of a vehicle when the fire started.
The homeowner, his son, a painter and several pets were inside the house at the time. No one was injured.
The damage to the home is so extensive, however, that its residents will not be able to live there for at least several weeks.
