It’s a time to remember those who fought for the freedom we enjoy now.
Thousands of people attended the ceremony at Victory Square in Vancouver this year.
Veterans of past wars and peacekeeping missions stood side by side with a new generation of veterans. Seven veterans also attended from the Brock Fahrni Pavilion.
It was 95 years ago today in 1918, the guns stopped firing at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, ending the so-called ‘war to end wars’.
66,000 Canadians died in World War One. 45,000 died in World War Two. There are still 1,300 Canadians, enlisted men and women, serving actively around the world right now.
The Vancouver ceremony at Victory Square is the oldest continuing annual ceremony in Vancouver, starting back in 1924.
The ceremony and parade generally attracts thousands of citizens to Victory Square, rain or shine, and also attracts hundreds of thousands of viewers across the country.
