Driver faces dangerous driving charges after high speed crash leaves 1 dead in Toronto

One person died and another was injured after a collision in Toronto early Sunday.

Two vehicles crashed in the area of Dundas Street West and Nottingham Drive just after 4:30 a.m.

Two vehicles were travelling ‘at a high rate of speed’ on Dundas Street at that time, police said. They reportedly lost control and crashed into ‘fixed objects’ on the road.

One of the vehicles, a silver SUV, ended up in the yard of a residential home, police said. The driver of the SUV, a 37-year-old man, was declared dead at the scene.

Another person, the passenger of a black pickup truck, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police said the driver of the truck was arrested at the scene.

The driver, 27-year-old Christian Salazar, faces a charge of dangerous operation causing death and another for dangerous operation causing bodily harm. The charges have not been proven in court.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.
