EDMONTON – The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating after a poppy fund box was stolen from a grocery store in the Bonnie Doon neighbourhood.
Police say staff at the grocery store, located in the area of 83rd St. and 82nd Ave., noticed their poppy donation box was missing around 2:00 on Monday afternoon.
After reviewing the store’s surveillance video, police say it appears a man stole the donation box from the customer service till.
Police are now searching for the suspect, who is described as a slim Caucasian man, about 5’10” tall. Police say he has a goatee and long dark hair. He was wearing a big black winter coat, a light brown hoodie, dark jeans, black shoes, and a black baseball hat with white trim.
This is the second poppy donation box that’s been stolen in Edmonton over the past two weeks. A container filled with donations raised from selling poppies was stolen on Sunday, October 27, from a northeast Edmonton convenience store.
In Calgary, 31 poppy donation boxes were swiped over a 10-day period. On Thursday, police in that city arrested and charged a man with three counts of theft under $5,000.
