TORONTO — The ongoing scandal around Toronto Mayor Rob Ford is providing material for late night TV hosts — and stand-up comics like Gilbert Gottfried.

“At least he kept it out of the news,” Gottfried said Wednesday. “That’s the important thing.”

With a forked tongue firmly in cheek, the veteran comedian weighed in on the embattled mayor during an appearance on Global’s The Morning Show.

“I like the fact that he said he did smoke crack but he was in a drunken stupor at the time. In all fairness, he only drinks when he’s on acid. And he only takes acid after he’s strangled a hooker,” Gottfried joked.

“He said now’s the time to get back to work. I thought, yeah you have to get back to work to buy crack. Crack doesn’t buy itself.”

Gottfried, who has famously roasted notable men like Donald Trump and Hugh Hefner, noted Ford said at Tuesday’s press conference that he felt as if “a thousand pounds” were lifted off his shoulders.

“Well, it doesn’t show,” he said. “Obviously crack is not a weight-loss drug.”

Gottfried performs Nov. 7 in Toronto, Nov. 8 in Hamilton, Ont., Nov. 9 in London, Ont., Nov. 24 in Montreal and April 10 to 12 in Calgary.
