Woman, 27, dies after being hit by semi-truck in Kelowna: Police

A pedestrian who was struck by a semi-truck on Friday morning has died, say police.

Kelowna RCMP announced the news just after 4 p.m., following the incident at Harvey Avenue and Gordon Drive earlier in the day.

The pedestrian was identified as a 27-year-old woman.

“Information from the investigation states the woman was crossing northbound on foot at the intersection against the crosswalk indicator when she was first struck by a semi-trailer truck in the westbound HOV lane,” said police.

“The woman was immediately taken to Kelowna General Hospital, where she was confirmed to have succumbed to her injuries.”

Harvey Avenue, between Burtch Road and Ethel Street, was temporarily closed to traffic but has since reopened.

Eastbound traffic on Harvey Avenue was unaffected.

While Harvey Avenue was closed, police asked the public to stay away from the area as they investigated.

Police say the BC Coroner’s Office has taken over the investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the incident and is in need of assistance is asked to contact Central Okanagan RCMP Victim Services at 250-470-6242.
