HUMBOLDT, Sask. – A man is dead after a taxi sank in a slough west of Humboldt, Sask. on Tuesday.
Around 3:30 a.m., a westbound taxi on Highway 5 left the road and was submerged in a large slough.
Two passengers were able to exit the vehicle and swim to shore.
The 42-year-old driver exited the taxi but did not make it.
His body was retrieved by RCMP and local volunteer firefighters using a boat.
Mounties say icy road conditions were present at the time, but it is not yet known at this point in the investigation if this was a factor.
Humboldt is approximately 105 kilometres east of Saskatoon.
