Seventeen-year-old Adrian Ducas was taking a quick break from a basketball game at Malton Community Centre Saturday night when he was shot to death inside the centre.

At about 8:30 p.m., three black males walked into the centre as two basketball games were going on, Peel police say. They weren’t involved in the games and, somehow, in the midst of approximately 30 people there at the time, Mr. Ducas was shot.

“The three suspects proceeded to walk away, in an unknown direction,” said Constable J.P. Valade.

When officers arrived, they discovered Mr. Ducas with life-threatening injuries and, shortly after, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 17-year-old was a Grade 12 student living in Mississauga, police said.

Although there were around 30 people in the centre at the time, police have little information about the suspects. “We are looking to speak with absolutely anyone who was inside that community centre at the time,” Const. Valade said.

Mr. Ducas’s death is Peel Region’s 4th homicide this year.
