Waterloo school placed under hold and secure during police investigation

A school in Waterloo was placed in hold and secure on Monday due to the threat of a potential altercation, according to Waterloo Regional Police (WRP).

A release from police said officers were dispatched to a weapons call near University Avenue and Weber Street at around 1:45 p.m.

On Twitter around 2:30 p.m., WRP announced that Waterloo Collegiate Institute had been placed under the hold and secure due to an investigation.

An hour later, police would say the hold and secure at the school on Hazel Street had been lifted.

According to a release, an investigation by officers found no viable threat to public safety.

They say that no charges were laid as a result of the incident.
