‘Chaotic’ fight in downtown St. Catharines leaves 3 with stab wounds: police

Police in St. Catharines are investigating after “a chaotic scene” early on Saturday morning that left at least three people with stab wounds.

Niagara Region Police said they responded to a large fight with reports of multiple stabbings at St. Paul and James streets in downtown St. Catharines at around 2:30 a.m.

Emergency services found several people suffering from injuries that varied from superficial to serious, police said. Three had been stabbed, officers said in an update — police originally believed that number to be higher.

“The injured persons were treated at the scene and transported to a local hospital for further care,” Niagara police said.

Niagara Regional police said “multiple” people were in custody and said there was no threat to public safety.

In an update, officers named two men who had been arrested.

Rohan Errol Chandler, a 27-year-old from St. Catherines, faces three charges of assault with a weapon, three counts of possession of a schedule one substance and one count of failure to comply with his probation.

Fifty-four-year-old Victor Guy Clayton from Lake, Ont., was charged with assault, police said.

“The investigation remains ongoing by detectives,” police said on Saturday. “No suspects are believed to be outstanding, the persons who have been charged were known to the victims.”
