A shelter in place at a school in northern Durham Region that was prompted by a bear sighting on Tuesday has been lifted, officials say.
In a tweet posted shortly before 10 a.m., the Durham District School Board (DDSB) said Beaverton Public School went into a shelter in place protocol “as a precaution due to a bear sighting in the area.”
The DDSB said authorities were aware of the incident.

Durham Regional Police and the DDSB confirm to Global News that the shelter in place has since been lifted.
Doors at the elementary school were locked until the incident was over.
The school is located on King Street in Beaverton, Ont.
