Dangerous offender hearing for convicted child abductor continues

A dangerous offender hearing is underway for a convicted sex offender who kidnapped a little boy from Sparwood two years ago.

Randall Hopley pleaded guilty to kidnapping three year-old Kienan Hebert in September 2011 before returning him days later unharmed to his parents’ home.

The judge is hearing arguments on whether the 47-year-old should be designated as a dangerous or long-term offender.

If Hopley is declared a dangerous offender, he could be looking at a prison sentence with no chance of parole for seven years.
