Speed, alcohol factors in deadly Knight Street Bridge crash

VANCOUVER — A single-vehicle crash that closed the southbound lanes of the Knight Street Bridge on Thursday morning killed the driver and injured a male passenger, police said.

Richmond RCMP said in a release Thursday that speed and alcohol were factors in the 1:37 a.m. crash about 100 metres north of the Bridgeport exit at the south end of the bridge.

"Witnesses at scene stated that the single vehicle had been traveling at a high rate of speed before losing control and striking the center median," police said.

The southbound lanes remained closed for about seven hours after the crash.
