Tax hike to Calgary cost homeowners $82/yr.

Calgary homeowners will pay on average another $82 in property taxes this year, with tax rates rising by 3.9 per cent.

Monday, council will approve the 2010 tax increase — a 4.79 per cent hike on the municipal portion of the bill, approved last November, and a 2.9 per cent increase on the provincial side.

The city says a residential property assessed at a median $374,000 would have a total tax bill of $2,197 — 53.4 per cent of that stays with the City of Calgary, 46.6 per cent goes to the province.

The province increased the amount it collects from Calgary through property taxes in 2010 by $24.2 million to $602.1 million.

What individual homeowners pay depends first on their assessed value.

Individual property tax bills are mailed out in June.
