Missing Winnipeg man found safe

Winnipeg police say a man who went missing Saturday evening, as frigid temperatures descended on the city and Environment Canada issued an extreme cold warning, has been found safe.

Sunday morning, police said 39-year-old Dale Bighetty was last seen near McDermot Avenue and Pearl Street, near Health Sciences Centre.

At around 1 p.m., the force sent out an update that he had since been safely found.

Police had asked residents in the downtown area to check their sheds, garages, under decks and in parked vehicles, as it was possible he may have sought shelter overnight.

Police were concerned for Bighetty’s well-being due to a need for “immediate and ongoing” medical care.
