Surrey man facing eight more child porn charges

METRO VANCOUVER – The 36-year-old Surrey man arrested by investigators on Jan. 22 is now facing another eight child pornography related charges for a total of 16 charges.

The charges include sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching, sexual interference, possession of child pornography, making child pornography and distribution of child pornography, according to a news release.

This investigation began on Jan. 22 when police received information from an international source claiming that the accused, and other individuals from around the world, were exchanging images and videos of sexual abuse of children, aged 5 to 11, known to them. Police executed a search warrant at the man’s Surrey residence on Jan. 22 which led to the seizure of electronic and computer devices that had evidence on them.

The intervention of police led to the "rescue" of seven local children, a child from Ontario and a child from the United States.

The BC Integrated Child Exploitation Team explain "rescue" as, preventing continuous sexual abuse and at times, frequently disturbing sadistic abuse of children, according to the news release. These children have been groomed by the offender and believe it to be normal behaviour.

The accused appeared in Surrey court on Feb. 5 in Surrey and has been held in custody ever since. He will be reappearing in court today in Surrey.
