Paper Egg campaign kick starts in Saskatchewan

A campaign that raises money to help kids with disabilities go to camp began today.

Easter Seals Saskatchewan launched the Paper Egg campaign in the province. Money raised through the campaign goes to help kids in Saskatchewan attend Camp Easter Seals at Watrous Lake. The camp is a fully accessible camp for kids which helps develop their social skills and allows them to move around freely. It’s a camp that is very important, said Karen Moore, Regional Director of the Saskatchewan Abilities Council.

“The children that attend that camp, it is an amazing opportunity for them personally; it’s a development opportunity for sure,” Moore said said. “It removes all the barriers so they can go and just be a regular kid.”

Around 700 kids attend Camp Easter Seals each summer in Saskatchewan. The cost is $1,500 per kid each week they attend.

Attending Monday’s event was the 2010 Ambassador, Alex Bear. He is replacing last year’s ambassador Jennifer Lozinski.

Since 2000 the Paper Egg Campaign has raised over $5.5 million nationally. Paper eggs can be purchased for $1 from The Bargain! Shop, Money Mart, Peavey Mart, SARCAN Recycling Centres, Mac’s Convenience Stores and Conexus Credit Unions.
