UPDATE: Deadly crash closes Highway 2A near High River

CALGARY – Highway 2A was closed in both directions north of High River on Thursday morning, after a deadly crash involving two vehicles.

RCMP say it happened around 7 a.m. near the entrance to the Cargill Foods plant, north of the town.

A red Chevrolet Blazer was stopped facing south, waiting to turn left, when it was rear-ended by a white Honda Civic.

The driver of the Civic died at the scene. He has been identified as 19-year-old Jonathon Martin Hamm of Okotoks.

The driver of the Blazer was treated for minor injuries.

RCMP say the crash may have been a case of distracted driving.
