Saskatchewan posts strong petroleum land sales to start the year

The first petroleum and natural gas rights land sale of 2010 raised $39.5 million for the province. The Bakken oil play in the southeastern corner of Saskatchewan drew the most interest, with sales in that region totaling just under $26 million. $5.7 million was spent in the Lloydminster region, $4 million around Swift Current and $3.9 million in the Kindersley area.

This sale brings the total amount raised in the 2009-10 fiscal year to $151.4 million. The next sale will be held April 12.
