B.C. acupuncturist found guilty of overbilling

A B.C. acupuncturist has been found guilty of professional misconduct after he was under investigation by the Medical Services Plan for overbilling.

He has now been suspended from his practice, and the College of Traditional Medicine has pulled his licence.

In his ad, Mubai Qiu says in Mandarin that he’s the world’s greatest acupuncturist, but perhaps he’s the world’s richest.

“More than a million dollars,” said Brian Wallace from the B.C. College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists. “Maybe closer to two million dollars in total over a period of several years.”

“Hundreds of patients, indeed more than a hundred patients in several days, as many as three hundred plus on one day,” he added.

“The panel concluded it was patently absurd.”
