Police call on community to ‘point out’ killer of ‘innocent’ teens

TORONTO – Homicide investigators are calling on the Jane and Finch community to “point out” the person responsible for the murder of O’She Doyles-Whyte and Kwame Duodo.

“What is consistent is that the person responsible, their name is being called out over and over,” Det. Sgt. Terry Browne said at a press conference Wednesday. “I need someone, rather than just call out or shout out a name, I need someone to point out the individual.”

Browne said several members of the Jane and Finch community have been “whispering” the name of the shooter and giving police anonymous tips.

If a person was willing to stand up and point out the shooter, however, Browne said he could make an arrest.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that people within that community know who the involved parties are,” he said.

Police held the press conference Wednesday afternoon to display photos of the bikes which were used by the shooter to flee the scene.

They were three bikes, but Browne believes there was only one shooter.

Doyles-Whyte, 16, and Duodo, 15, were shot on a Friday afternoon outside of a Toronto Community Housing (TCHC) building on Grandravine Drive.

The 16-year-old was pronounced dead on the front step of the building and Duodo died in hospital.

Six teenagers have been killed in Toronto so far this year and Browne believe Doyles-Whyte and Duodo may have simply been innocent bystanders.

“I think they were just in the wrong place at that time,” he said. “I definitely believe they are innocent bystanders, I do not believe in any way shape or form that they were the intended targets.”

Along with Doyles-Whyte and Duodo, 15-year-old Tahj Loor-Walters and 15-year-old St. Aubyn Rodney were killed in the Jane and Finch community.  And in February, Tyson Bailey, 15, and Jarvis Montaque, 15, were shot dead in Rexdale
