Olympic Torch Relay Details Finalized For Regina

The City of Regina announced the final details for the Regina leg of the torch relay for this weekend.

Around 6:15 PM on Saturday January 9th, the torch will enter the city at the intersection of Victoria Avenue and Park Street. The torch will continue west along Victoria Avenue, which will also be the location for the World’s Longest Shinny Game. The game will span eight city blocks between Broad Street and Albert Street.

After turning north on Albert Street the torch will head west on 9th Avenue, where RCMP, torchbearers and dignitaries will light a cauldron in the Regina Sportplex parking lot.

There will be lots of Saskatchewan talent at the Fieldhouse during the evening program that begins at 6:00 PM. Performers will include Jason Plumb, Rory Allen and a Metis dance group.

Limited parking will be available at Evraz Place. Free transit service from Regina malls will leave at 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM with drop off set for 8:00 PM.

On Sunday January 10th, the torch will begin at 8:20 AM in front of the RCMP Heritage Centre. It will continue east on Dewdney Avenue before turning north on McIntosh Street, east on 4th Ave and south on Albert Street. Shortly after 9:30 AM the torch will circle around the Legislative Building before continuing south on Albert. The route will end around 10:09 AM on Albert Street, just south of the Golden Mile.

From Regina the torch will continue onto Moose Jaw.
