Police said they received a report of a man with a rifle near Diamond and Diamond Head roads just before 4 p.m., and urged people to avoid the area.

People living in the area were asked to remain inside and lock their doors, and to not post images of police locations to social media.

The suspect was ultimately taken into custody around two hours later without incident for a “weapons-related offence.”

“From the time of the initial reports earlier today until the situation at scene concluded, there were no injuries, public safety was not at risk, and there was no property damage,” RCMP said in a statement following the arrest.

The area around Diamond and Diamond Head roads are now reopened and nearby residents can leave their homes.
