Véronique Comtois, a spokesperson for the police department, said a call was made around 7:30 a.m. about the situation at the corner of McGill College and Sherbrooke Street.

Comtois said the tactical squad deemed the suitcase not to be a threat after an analysis of it. Police are now looking into why the package was left unattended at the downtown Montreal campus.

McGill issued a tweet shortly before 11 a.m., saying the incident is all over and that the police force has given the all clear.

The incident prompted Dawson Hall as well as the McCall MacBain Arts and Leacock buildings to be evacuated. Police said this was done as a precaution and the buildings are reopening.
