Conservative Sen. Bob Runciman says he will voluntarily begin posting his expenses online in the fall.

“The Senate, as an unelected body, should set the gold standard for public access to spending practices,” Runciman said in a release.

“I will post details of spending for travel, hospitality, expenses while in Ottawa for Senate sittings, and other details of my office and research budget.”

Runciman, a former Ontario Progressive Conservative leader who was appointed by Prime Minister Stephen Harper in 2010,  will be the second senator to voluntarily disclose his spending.

Earlier this year, Conservative Sen. Doug Black – who is also the upper chamber’s elected member from Alberta – began posting his expenses on his personal website.

“I’ve always believed we have an obligation as Senators to be as transparent as possible, and recent news about Senate spending has only reinforced that belief,” Runciman said.

“This is taxpayers’ money and they have a right to know how we’re spending it.”

Meanwhile, Liberal leader Justin Trudeau has also said his MPs and Senators will start posting their travel and hospital expenses online.

Runciman’s website is www.bobrunciman.com. Black’s is www.dougblack.ca.
