Police say the broad daylight shooting took place around the noon hour on Thursday near Ritson Road North and Bond Street East.

Duty Insp. James Lamothe says when they responded, they found a man in the driver’s seat of a car after what appeared to be some sort of accident.
“Officers arrived on scene. Obviously it’s a busy intersection here — we have lots of people, vehicles here,” says Lamothe

“Investigators found a lone victim in his car with a gunshot wound.” The victim, a 25-year-old man, was taken to a Toronto trauma centre with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say it’s not yet clear what led to the incident, but they are looking into whether there may have been some sort of altercation while the suspect and victim were driving. Tactical teams and the K9 unit were brought in to try and locate the suspect, who fled the scene.

“Right now we are trying to establish a suspect and the location of the suspect as well. We’ve got detectives on the scene and off scene and uniforms looking into the situation,” says Lamothe. Multiple rounds were found at the scene and a forensics team is now trying to piece together what led to the incident.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward who may have video that could help with the investigation.
