Boaters rush to help after float plane flips on Lake Cowichan

Two people are OK after the float plane they were in flipped during take off from Lake Cowichan Sunday afternoon.

A spokesperson with the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre said boaters rushed to the scene to help get the pair out and get them to shore.

The plane is a privately owned VJ-22 Sportsman Amphibious. It was towed to a nearby dock, but the extent of the damage is unknown at this time.

Bill Yearwood with the Transportation Safety Board said it appears the plane hit the wake of a boat as it was taking off.
