2 dead, 2 injured after shooting in downtown Toronto: police

Two people have died and two people have been injured after a shooting in downtown Toronto, police say.

Emergency crews were called to Spadina Avenue between Nassau and Oxford streets, south of College Street, before 6 a.m. on Sunday.

A Toronto police spokesperson told Global News there were multiple reports of a shooting in the area after some sort of altercation near the corner of Spadina Avenue and Nassau Street.

After officers arrived, the spokesperson said four men between the ages of 27 and 43 were found with gunshot wounds.

Two of the patients, later identified as 27-year-old Markham resident Anthony Dang and 32-year-old Richmond Hill resident Zhi Tan, died at the scene.

The two other patients, a 31-year-old from Markham and a 43-year-old from Burnaby, B.C., were rushed by paramedics to a hospital. The Markham man was later treated and released from the hospital while the Burnaby man was, as of Monday, being treated for serious injuries.

The TTC reported 510 Spadina vehicles were being detoured along College Street, Bathurst Street and Dundas Street West due to the police investigation.

Meanwhile, anyone with information about the investigation was asked to call police at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.
