It’s the first medal for the 23-year-old from Levis, Que., and Canada’s first in the velodrome at the Tokyo Olympics — as well as Canada’s first-ever medal in keirin.

Another Canadian, Kelsey Mitchell of Sherwood Park, Alta., came in fifth.

Keirin is an eight-lap track cycling event, in which the riders stay behind a motorized pace bike for the first few laps as they slowly get up to speed, exploding in a sprint to the finish.
