CALGARY – Warrants for attempted murder have been issued for two people after an improvised explosive device was left at a Rundlehorn Drive NE home over the weekend.
Police say two IEDs were left near the intended victim’s home and investigators believe it was a targeted attack. They were found on Saturday morning.
Two people – a 17 year-old who cannot be named and Kyle Robert McKee, 24 – are wanted for attempted murder, possessing, making or controlling explosives and possession of a weapon or imitation for a dangerous purpose.
Police have confirmed that McKee is member of the Calgary Aryan Guard and that they are investigating whether this affiliation played a part in the attack.
McKee is described as 5’9", 140 lbs and slim build with blue eyes and a shaved head.
Staff Sgt. Keith Cain said police do not know if the devices were part of a failed race-motivated attack.
"We want to know what the motive is; we’re not certain of that right now," said Cain.
Cain did not know if the minor is also a member of the white supremacist group.
There were two people in the home at the time and it was information from them that lead police to lay the charges.
"We’re very interested in locating both the 17 year old and Mr. McKee because we believe that there is danger to the victims and possibly to others," said Cain.
Over the weekend, police said the intended victim picked up the IEDs and threw them into the parking lot where they exploded.
"It’s very evident to me that the person . . . was probably within seconds of being very hurt or killed," duty inspector Frank Reuser said on Saturday.
