Motorcyclist killed after crash in Foothills Industrial Park

CALGARY- A 45-year-old man was killed on Tuesday afternoon, after a crash between a motorcycle and a large truck in the Foothills Industrial Park.

It happened just after 2 p.m.

Police say a cube van heading east on 61st turned left onto 44th, colliding with a motorcycle going west through the intersection. The man riding the motorcycle died at the scene.

“It’s an unposted 50 kilometer an hour stretch here, but if you’ve got a small motorcycle against a relatively large truck there, it’s science right,” says Cst. Kevin Green from the Calgary Police Traffic Unit.

Those who work in the area say changes are needed along the busy thoroughway.

“Something’s gotta be done…we are constantly coming out here to accidents,” complains Perry Frees. “There’s usually an injury, it’s usually a pretty bad accident.”

Traffic along parts of 61st Ave. and 44 Street were blocked off for the investigation.

Police say it does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors in this collision.
