Jeff Symonds wins Challenge Penticton with a time of 8:29:57. Challenge Penticton

PENTICTON — It’s the first time North America has hosted a Challenge Family race, but that’s not what is making headlines.

Penticton’s very own Jeff Symonds takes the top spot with a time of 8:29:57.

Shortly after the victory, the triathlete was taken to hospital due to an injury he suffered during the cycle course.

But the wound never slowed him down.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

He had a 15 minute lead over 2nd place winner Scott DeFilippis from the USA.

The grueling course included a 3.8 km swim, 180 km cycle and 42.2 km run.
