Owner looks to rebuild after fire destroys Hague car dealership

HAGUE, Sask. – A fire on Wednesday evening destroyed a car dealership in Hague, Sask.

The blaze started around 6 p.m. and withing two hours, the inside was gutted.

It’s a huge loss as the dealership is one of the main businesses in the small town.

“There’s nothing left, the buildings totally destroyed. We had Rosthern, they were our first call, then Laird with the tankard and then we called Warman with their pumper and tankard, so we had probably close to 50 members here from the communities,” said Hague Fire Chief Jim Heinbigner.

Valley Ford’s General Manager and owner Kevin Adams was on holidays in Waskesui when the fire started. He rushed back to find his business up in flames.

“A lot of flashing lights and people watching, I was able to get around to the other side of the building to see the extent of the damage, by that time the roof had collapsed in on the entire building so it appeared everything was gone,” said Adams.

The business had been undergoing renovations which were about 50 per cent complete. About 25 people are employed at the dealership.

Nobody was injured in the fire but it will have a huge impact on the town of nearly 900 people.

“I’m still choked up about it, I was here last night watching and thinking my goodness what more can i say, it’s not good. It hurts, put it that way, it hurts,” said Hague Mayor Pat Wagner.

The cause of the blaze and cost of damages are still not known at this time. Fire crews continue to investigate.

The owner of Valley Ford says he plans on rebuilding.

“Our biggest priority right now is figuring out how we can operate and how i can get our staff back to work,” said Adams.
