Ottawa police arrest man in connection with fatal stabbing near College Square

Ottawa police have charged one man with first-degree murder after two women were stabbed, one fatally, near Algonquin College on Tuesday night.

Police said the incident occurred in the 1800 block of Baseline Road, near Navaho Drive and the College Square plaza, at 6:45 p.m.

They said one woman had died and a second woman was left with serious but non-life-threatening injuries following a stabbing.

The deceased was identified Wednesday as 50-year-old Hanadi Mohammed of Ottawa.

Police arrested the suspect shortly after 11 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a statement.

On Wednesday police announced that 54-year-old Hamid Ayoub of Ottawa is facing charges of first-degree murder and attempted murder.
