Canada election results: Brampton North

Global News is projecting Ruby Sahota has been re-elected as the Liberal MP for Brampton North.

The Ontario riding of Brampton North is located in the Regional Municipality of Peel and includes the northern portions of the City of Brampton.

The riding was formally known as Brampton—Springdale before changing its name to Brampton North for the 2015 election.

Sahota won the seat in 2015 with 48.4 per cent of the vote, defeating Conservative Parm Gill. Sahota retained the seat in the 2019 election with 51.4 per cent of the vote.

Sahota is a lawyer, who practised law from 2007-2012 in Cleveland before entering politics.

According to the 2016 census, immigrants from India are a large portion of the population.
