A 29-year-old Whistler man is dead after a rollover crash during a busy cycling event in Pemberton this weekend.

It took place Sunday morning on Pemberton Meadows near Collins Road during the annual Pemberton Slow Food Cycle.

The community event attracts thousands of people who bike between farms and involves a lot of families with children.

It appears a truck had passed a number of families cycling in the wrong lane and lost control after going around a corner. The vehicle then went off the road, narrowly missing some cyclists, and flipped.

Two of the five occupants were airlifted to Vancouver with serious injuries. Two others were taken to Whistler for treatment. The 29-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say it is a miracle no one else was hurt.

Police say it appears the occupants of the car were travelling from a music event that took place the night before.
