Liberal candidate Steven Mackinnon is the projected winner in the riding of Gatineau.
The riding includes part of the city of the same name. It sits along the Ottawa River.
Liberal MP Steven MacKinnon was first elected as MP of Gatineau in 2015 and has held the seat since. During the 2019 election, he won with 52.1 per cent of the vote. MacKinnon is also the parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Public Services and Procurement.
The riding has voted mostly Liberal since it’s been part of the House of Commons. It was overtaken by the “orange wave” in 2011 when Françoise Boivin was elected for the NDP. From 2006-11, the Bloc Québécois’ Richard Nadeau held the seat.
According to 2016 census data, 88.9 per cent of the population speak French, with just over eight per cent speaking English.
