More deadly gun violence as ‘targeted’ shooting leaves 19-year-old dead in Burnaby

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team is investigating a fatal shooting in Burnaby Saturday night.

Police were called to the area of 13th Avenue and 6th Street after gunfire erupted around 7 p.m.

Shannah Robin said he was working at his martial arts gym when he heard multiple shots outside.

“I heard four gunshots. By the time I ran out, there was a guy lying on the floor and people screaming,” he said.

“Right away I noticed this guy was going to die, I had to run up and tell his friend to put some pressure on the wound.”

The victim was taken to hospital, where IHIT said the 19-year-old died.

IHIT said it believes the shooting was targeted.

Homicide investigators remained on scene Sunday, but said they were unlikely to have an update on the shooting until Monday.

The incident marked the third of four Saturdays in Metro Vancouver marred by shootings. It was also the fourth fatal shooting in two weeks in the region.

Police have yet to say whether they believe the latest killing is linked to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.
