More tickets have been handed out in Regina for people found to have been disobeying Saskatchewan’s public health orders aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19.
The Regina Police Service (RPS) said it monitored an anti-mask rally event protesting the public health orders with roughly 150 to 160 people in Victoria Park on April 24. Four tickets were issued to protesters for violations and more were pending, they said.
According to a press release on Thursday, police had served a total of 16 public health order tickets to individuals who were at the rally for allegedly breaching the provision limiting outdoor gatherings to 10.
Regina police say they are now asking for public assistance in identifying unmasked protesters from another rally inside the Cornwall Centre shopping mall on April 24.
Police posted videos of 17 individuals on their website for “citizens who want to leave a tip” or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
“The (RPS) is looking to identify individuals contravening the provision of the public health order that requires people to wear masks in public indoor spaces, such as malls and markets,” read a statement on Thursday.
“The (RPS) recognizes that most members of the public abide by the public health orders and have shown great patience, and commitment to the health and safety of all members of our community.”
