Ottawa police say a suspect is in custody after two stabbings in Chinatown Friday morning left one man dead and another person seriously injured.
The Ottawa Police Service said on Twitter that it received calls at 9:41 a.m. reporting a stabbing in the area of Somerset Street West and Arthur Street, near the Kowloon supermarket.
Officers arriving on the scene found one man with stab wounds, police said.
The victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead, according to OPS. Police have identified the victim as 64-year-old Carl Reinboth.
Police said a second person was stabbed by the same suspect a few hours later at 11:50 a.m. in the 600 block of Somerset Street West, east of the original incident. The victim in that attack suffered serious injuries and was also sent to hospital, according to a release.
Police said shortly after noon that a male suspect was in custody in connection with the incident and that charges are pending.
