Overnight crash in Winnipeg’s Exchange District triggers lane closures during morning rush

An overnight crash involving a Winnipeg Transit bus in Winnipeg’s Exchange District Tuesday morning sent two people to hospital.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) told Global News the crash happened at 1:18 a.m. on Main Street near Bannatyne Avenue, and two people were sent to hospital in stable condition.

The crash triggered a lengthy cleanup. A light standard was seen toppled over the bus, which has since been removed from the area.

Two lanes were closed just north of Bannatyne Avenue on Main Street. One lane opened up at about 8 a.m., leaving the turning lane from southbound Main to Bannatyne Avenue closed.

The intersection was being treated as a four-way stop for part of the morning rush.

The traffic signal at Bannatyne and Main has since been fixed.

As of 9 a.m., traffic was moving well on Main through the area.
