The boy was cold and hungry, with a few bruises, but was otherwise unhurt when he was found by Quesnel Search and Rescue, police said.

It was not immediately clear where the boy was found, or how far it was from where he had been reported missing.

Police and local search and rescue used drones and a dog team to trace the boy, to the area of Highway 97S Wednesday, but lost track of him from there, RCMP Const. Jen Cooper said.

Rescuers had set up a command post in Hixson Wednesday and were focusing their efforts south of there.

Editor’s note: Police have issued a correction stating that the missing boy is 12, rather than 13 years old as they originally reported.
